When Iraqis were first listed in the Australian census, the population was just over 2,000. In 2001 there were more than 10 times that many. Fleeing refugees from recent war and terrorism has increased those numbers in the past few years. Most speak Arabic at home and few speak English. The population is largely younger, with a large majority being under 35.
Among the Iraqi Arabs there are a number of Christians. Pray they will cling fervently to Jesus and the truth of the gospel and share freely with their fellow Arabs.
